The Importance of Details on your Wedding Day
Before the dress goes on, before the guests arrive, before you walk down the aisle — the story of your wedding day begins with the little things. The textures, the pieces, the quiet moments that make the day uniquely yours.
As a photographer, I love starting the morning with details. It’s my way of easing into the rhythm of the day — styling your invitation suite, photographing the dress hanging in the window light, capturing the scent of your perfume bottle you’ll wear for the first time. These are the images that set the tone for your gallery and help tell the full story of your wedding day.
Here are some of my favorite details to include (and what to have ready when I arrive):
1. Flat lay pieces
Your invitation suite, envelopes, save-the-date, and any paper goods you’ve designed for the day. Add in your rings, jewelry, perfume, and a few florals or ribbon to tie everything together — literally and visually.
2. Fashion details
The dress, veil, shoes, heirloom pieces, and even the groom’s tie or cufflinks. These shots show off the style and thought you’ve poured into your day.
3. Sentimental touches
Handwritten vows, letters to each other, embroidered handkerchiefs, or something borrowed and blue. These pieces often hold the most meaning.
4. The rings
Don’t worry — I’ll make sure your rings get their close-up. I love to style them with soft light and layered textures that match the feel of your day.
5. The surroundings
If you’re getting ready in a space that’s meaningful to you — a childhood home, a favorite hotel, or a charming Airbnb — those little corners deserve their own moment too.
It’s easy to think detail shots are just “extra,” but they’re what make your gallery feel whole. They’re the in-between pieces that transport you back to the feeling of the morning — the excitement, the quiet, the anticipation.
So when you’re packing up for the big day, gather all your little things in one place. I’ll take it from there and make sure your details are captured just as beautifully as every big moment that follows.
